When Hisham Zaqout of Al Jazeera visited the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza on Saturday, he spoke with a number of Palestinians who had taken advantage of the fighting’s halt to return to their neighborhoods, only to discover complete devastation.
Nothing is left standing in our devastated home. An old woman replied, “And the majority of the ducks and chickens were eaten by ravenous street dogs.”
She went on, “This is a genocide, not a war.” “These crimes are unprecedented.”
According to Zaqout, the Israeli military has been heavily pounding the Bureij camp since last month, forcing many of its people to relocate to the Nuseirat refugee camp, which is located farther to the west.
